Well, here's the new Sepultura CD. Anyone have change for a dollar? I want one of those packages of cookies in the vending machine downstairs...

Well, Sepultura releases their gazillionth CD, this one being the second CD with their new frontman since Max Cavelara took off and started up Soulfly.

A lot of people who I talk to who are Sepultura fans often say that the new guy doesn't fill Max's shoes. To an extent, I would agree. Max's voice just has more presence and all around fullness than the new guy's. But it still works...

Another issue with the vocals is that, well, I don't understand a damn word the vocalist says. I don't know if that is something they were striving for by adding tons of distortion to the vocals after he spills blood all over the mic, but one thing is for certain - diction is a definate issue with this CD. Of course, when you think about it, 90% of the Metal CDs out there have this problem. I just want to know what the song is about! Nothing makes a CD more boring than hearing, "ROOOAAWWRR!! SCHLARRGLY! BLEERRG! POOLAR BLLURURRRDD!! SEPULATION! GLLOOOGYYY!!"

I've always enjoyed Sepultura's heavyness and riffage, and on this CD they still utilize their trademark sound, however it's gotten rather boring. This is what I think happens to bands that already have a sound - they overuse their sound, instead of adding more to it. I think this also happened with the new Soulfly album - it didn't grab me as the previous one did. Sure, this new Sepultura album has plenty of heavy beats and intensity, but there's something that they're missing to make it a great album. It's just good. Not great.

Song structure remains the same as previous album: Starts out kinda quiet, gets heavy, busts out, gets quiet, gets heavy, end. Sometimes there is some diversity, but it it usually ends up the same.

Should you buy this? Well, it depends - if you are into Sepulura, hell yeah. If you like heavy shit, hell yeah. If you like a diverse album with different song structures and more musicianship, you probably should steer clear. It's just a matter of taste, but I think it's worth the money for real metalheads out there.
